CHRIST TRIBE

ONE TRIBE, MANY FAMILIES

“And the tribe of the Christians, so named after him, has not disappeared to this day.”

Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews, Book 18, Section 63

Some 2000 years ago a Jewish prophet, Jesus of Nazareth, began warning his people, Israel, of the nearness of judgment and salvation. Most did not heed his warning. The faithful were pressed into a small band of followers who claimed that Jesus was in deed not only a prophet, but the Son of God, the Messiah, and Immanuel. This “tribe of Christians,” as the second century Jewish historian Josephus called them, made it through the initial fulfillment of Jesus’ message and into an uncertain future; the kingdom they had hoped would soon materialize didn’t – at least not in the way many had thought. Nevertheless they made it through, into Josephus’ day and down unto our own. Ideally this blog will serve as a place for Christ’s “little flock” to sharpen their vision, stir their imagination, and otherwise prepare themselves for life between the times.

When you get a chance, also check out this introduction and first three chapters from The Book of Jubilees. Though not considered a…

Finding the Themes of Scripture

More to Say on the Benefits of Scripture Saturation It is no stretch of the imagination to say that for most Christians in the USA, the majority of their Bible reading comes through resources like daily devotionals or life application readings of Scripture sections that address their current challenges (i.e., the Bible as a Christian…
